Have you ever reflected on what it might mean for a throne to stand upon the surface of the ocean? The sea, for me, evokes a profound tension—an enduring interplay between admiration or serenity and unease or panic. It is almost like a love-hate relationship.
Each time I approach the coastline, a rush of excitement floods through, yet it is also accompanied by an equally powerful sense of dread. The allure is undeniable; the sea’s beauty and vastness draw one in almost irresistibly. Yet beneath this fascination lies a fleeting but intense fear, stirred by the sight of an immense body of water whose sheer magnitude is capable of drowning the entire continent of Australia and then some more.
On stormy days, this apprehension deepens, as I can see the waves crash so violently and menacingly almost as though the earth beneath them were shaking and trying to hurl the ocean outward upon us. It reminds me of a more familiar scene: my toddler running around our home in carefree unawareness, clutching my favorite cup full of coffee, as I watch the brown liquid rise up and down on the verge of spilling at any instant.
In such moments, I find myself momentarily breathless, confronted by a stark realization of how small we truly are in the presence of nature’s formidable power.
If you ever wondered in Islam about where Iblees (the devil) lies, then this hadeeth has the answer for you.
Jabir reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said:
Iblis places his throne upon water; he then sends detachments (for creating dissension) ; the nearer to him in rank are those who are most notorious in creating dissension. One of them comes and says: “I did so and so.” And he says: “You have done nothing.” Then one amongst them comes and says: “I did not spare so and so until I sowed the seed of discord between a husband and a wife.” The Satan goes near him and says: “You have done well.” A’mash said: He then embraces him.1
This hadeeth highlights how the disbelieving devils compete with each other and cause chaos and mischief to gain a higher rank and come closer to Iblis. No act pleases him more than the separation of a union between a husband and a wife.
The separation of a husband and a wife pleases Iblis so much because he likely enjoys the fact that he has destroyed something that carries so much weight in Islam. The importance of marriage for a person in his religion can be understood with this hadeeth.
Anas reported God’s Messenger (s) as saying, “When a man marries he has fulfilled half of the religion; so let him fear God regarding the remaining half.”2
Baihaqi transmitted in Shu’ab al-iman.
So from this Hadeeth we can understand that when one marries, it is as if he has fullfilled half of his entire religion. Marriage helps calm the desires down, brings modesty and also should lower the gazes and this is also stated in the below hadeeth.
“O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.”3
As the union between two people disintegrates and collapses, you can imagine the endless possibilities of sin that have now been created. Not to mention, the long-term effects that it could have on the children and their overall well being, beliefs, and psyche. 4
Now, let us dive deeper a bit and think about this hadeeth and how it relates to the world we live in today. Apparently, the devils compete with each other in their quest to spread mischief and chaos, and that results in favours from Iblis and a higher rank. This is proven by the first Hadeeth mentioned in this essay. Could all the wars, bloodshed, displacement and misery be related to this Hadeeth too?
My answer is, most likely. Wars cause severe mental trauma, wars shake up everyone’s belief system. Wars result in the death of civilians, families, husbands, wives and children. Wars cause displacement, hunger, thirst, fear and are a form of torture. 5 Wars do in fact, cause the break down of marriages. Usually, the first ones to pay the price of war and weaponry are civilians. 6
It is almost like we are living in a Satanist world where countries are competing to gain favours from the Devil through corruption and bloodshed. This hadeeth is a favourite of mine as it makes me feel sane and grounded with my judgement which could otherwise be considered as a conspiracy theory.
The way that war seems to always have a direct and brutal impact on women and children is just tragic and with the first hadeeth, oh so convenient for the corrupt systems that fuel them.
Don’t be quick to misunderstand what I am saying though. Some politicians, military leaders, offcials and even members of the armies may not necessarily have the devil in mind when they plot and carry out attacks. But we absolutely cannot deny that some may, in fact have it all deliberately planned and calculated. Regardless of the human intention behind all the wars, the devils may be the puppet masters and they might as well be in the center of all the gruesome war details. As Allah says in the Qu’ran:
Surah An-Nisa, Ayat 76

Which translates to
“Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of Taghut. So fight against the allies of Satan. Indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak.”7
“Taghut” is any authority that is worshipped besides Allah usually Satan. And clearly this ayah states that there are “those” who do worship Satan and “fight” in the cause of Satan. “Those” may be humans and may be devils and jinns too both of which have enormous influence over human behaviour.
Therefore, it is no surpirse that I am left with these questions:
Could war and terror amount to some form of satanic ritualistic abuse?
Could ISIS also be some form of satanic cult that purposely framed Islam and the Qur’anic verses of fighting and Jihad?
Could ISIS have committed atrocities against muslims and non-muslims in the name of Islam as a form of extreme blasphemy towards Allah and prophet Muhammad (s) to gain favours from Satan and disbelieving Jinn?
Could war and bloodshed all be conmected to the first Hadeeth in this essay and be one of the many ways the devils whisper in humans to cause damage and destruction and gain favours from Iblees (Satan)?
The answer is why not? Islam does seem to deny it all.
